This Holiday Season Choose Children’s Gifts that are Eye Safe

The holidays are upon us which means dolls, radio controlled airplanes, and Leapster Explorers. Adoring relatives enjoy treating the young ones to the ''in'' toys for the holidays.
It is crucial that family members teach relatives about some rules about eye safety and choosing toys. Accidents with unsafe toys do occur, occasionally resulting in blindness.

Here are a few tips to safeguard children from toy related injury:

  1. Remember, age appropriate toys only! Be careful not to permit young children to use toys intended for older brothers or sisters.

  2. Show children the proper way to play with toys. Prior to play, carefully check toys for safe construction.

  3. Supervise little children during playtime.

  4. Prevent eye injuries by tossing out any toys that have sharp or jagged pieces, or plastic or wooden missiles, commonly found in war-themed toys.

Before buying the popular toy that your child absolutely ''needs'', take a minute to review toy safety guidelines. The holidays are a great time for creating special moments with your family, not the emergency room doctor. Happy Holidays.
